Our two-day tour to Machu Picchu starts with an early transfer to the Ollantaytambo train station, where we board the train at 6:30 AM. This takes us to the starting point of the trek - called Km 104 on the train railroad. We pass through an Inca Trail check point and start hiking through the lush vegetation of a cloud forest. Our hike is greeted by local exotic birds such as Andean guan and grey-breasted mountain toucan, as well as various wild orchids and bromeliads along the path. We also see the Chachabamba ruins. We continue our hike to Wiñay Wayna, an Inca complex not far from Machu Picchu. The complex, which name means "Forever Young, is beautifully located and has spectacular views down to the sacred River Urubamba. Our hike now takes us to one of the main entrances of Machu Picchu - Inti Punku (Sun´s Gate), another stunning view point of the site. Then, we continue down to our hotel in Aguas Calientes. The visit of the Machu Picchu citadel will be the next morning.

DAY 1: Start of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Your guide picks you up from your hotel in Cusco to transfer you in a 2 hour ride to the Ollantaytambo train station. Your train ride lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes to Km 104 where the check point of the short Inca Trail is placed. You pass through the check point (your passport is needed to check in), and start trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. After a couple of hours, you reach the site of Chachabamba (7862’).
